What’s on My Playlist

I love music. From live music, to elevator music, or car music, I love it all and listen whenever I can (like right now) With all the time I spend online for school and other activities, it’s important to have music as a part of a daily routine. I’ve broken this article down into different sections, and each section is very different. Happy listening!

What I’m Listening to in this Moment-  “Elgar Cello Concerto in E Minor”

This is one of my favorite cello and classical pieces because of how emotional it is, and I feel the slower tempo draws you in and intrigues listeners. I know most people don’t listen to classical music, but this is a good “beginner” listening piece since it’s pretty short and has an easy melody to follow. As I’m writing and studying, I like to listen to non lyrical music, so I don’t get distracted.

What I’m Listening to in the Car- “Hey”, The Pixies

I really like The Pixies! They are quickly becoming one of my favorite bands, and I never realized how influential they were; according to their Wikipedia, they influenced Weezer, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, and what seems to be every grunge band. “Hey” is a really solid rock song to me- There’s angsty lyrics, nice drums, and a nice guitar. I can’t say much more, other than this song is great for hyping yourself up in the car.

A Really Random Song- “Rose’s Turn”, Glee Cast Version

I’ve gotten back into Glee recently and rather than “Don’t Stop Believing” or “Don’t Rain on My Parade”, “Rose’s Turn” has quickly become a favorite of mine. I think it’s the strong emotions and wonderful pit orchestra in the background that make it so desirable. I’m not usually a fan of musical theater, but this song makes my playlist for a reason.

An “Aesthetic” Song- “Female Energy, Part 2”, WILLOW

At this point in the article I’m just making up categories, but this song recently came on my Discover Weekly, so I checked it out (because of the cool album cover). This song is very dreamy and makes me feel like I’m in Euphoria.

My Personal Favorite- “Drain You”- Nirvana

It’s no secret that Nirvana is my favorite band and I love Dave Grohl. I don’t think I have a favorite Nirvana song, but I’ve been listening to “Drain You” a lot because it simply rocks and I like the personality and character associated with the song. For those who want a more musical analysis, I love the part with the guitar solo and build up with the drums to the chorus. This song really just makes me think of classic teen rebellion.
