My Top 10 Movies of 2020

I have always loved to watch movies and always enjoyed the experience of being in the movie theater. This year, like everything else, changed that experience. So, I made a movie list of movies I wanted to watch over quarantine and if I do say so myself, most of them were fantastic. That’s why I wanted to share some of my favorites from this year!
1. Call Me By Your Name
Directed By: Luca Guadagnino
Rating: R
A young man, Elio, and his family are staying in a villa in Northern Italy where a man, Oliver, comes to intern under Elio’s father. Elio and Oliver spend much time together which becomes a romance that sparks beauty and heartbreak. When I watched this movie I felt all the emotions that were portrayed in the movie. The soundtrack and the setting bring the movie together and the love that comes with it makes the movie one of a kind.
2. Parasite
Directed By: Boon Joon-Ho
Rating: R
A poor family tricks a rich family into hiring them for different positions. In this movie you see the discrimination between the classes and a discovery in the house they work. This movie is extremely clever, very well written, and the plot twist is gravitating. This movie won the Academy Award for Best Picture which was well deserved.
3. Ordinary People
Directed By: Robert Redford
Rating : R
In this coming of age movie, Conrad has lost his brother due to a sailing accident they were both in and he feels guilty for it. Conrad tries to take his life, but doesn’t succeed. Coming back home from rehabilitation, he still feels guilty and creates a battle within his family. Conrad’s dad makes him go to therapy where you discover Conrad’s truth. This movie creates an emotional rollercoaster and sense of sympathy for the characters. Highly recommended!
4. Moonlight
Directed By: Barry Jenkins
Rating: R
Chiron grows up in a poor community surrounded by drug dealers and gangs. His dad left his family a long time ago and his mom is a drug addict who is manipulative. In this movie you see Chiron grow up through his childhood to his adulthood with a secret of being gay and having people in his life show him how to be himself. I absolutely love this movie. It's tear jerking and eye-opening to the reality of people. Just a really incredible film!
5. Silence of the Lambs
Directed By: Jonathan Demme
Rating: R
An FBI training student, Clarice, gets a case to track down a murderer and to get insight on the case she needs to interview Dr. Hannibal Lector- a world famous psychopath and cannibal who’s in an asylum for his crimes. Hannibal escapes and still needing to solve the other case, Clarice is put in a tough situation. In this movie it is a perfect definition of a thriller and very fascinating. If you want a good ‘on the edge of your seat’ film this is perfect for you.
6. 12 Angry Men
Directed By: Sidney Lumet
Rating: NR
In this old film you see 12 jurors congregate after witnessing a trial of a boy who is accused of killing his father. The men have to reach an unanimous decision to see if the boy is guilty or not. As you look closely at the facts you discover more points of view on this matter that lead to a rivaling disagreement. This movie is very intriguing and makes you take a different approach on how some things appear.
7. Bombshell
Directed By: Jay Roach
Rating: R
Based off a true story, three anchorwomen on Fox News, step forward when they finally have enough of their boss harassing them. This movie shines a light on a topic that needs to be addressed more. You get to see three women hold their ground and fight back. A really great movie for women empowerment!
8. The Truman Show
Directed By: Peter Weir
Rating: PG
Truman Burbank life is a global TV show, but there’s one catch...he doesn’t know that his life is being filmed. Truman starts to sense these funny signs and starts to venture on what they are. This movie is quite unique and a really good family friendly film.
9. Sleepless in Seattle
Directed By: Nora Ephron
Rating: PG
Sam Baldwin moves to Seattle with his son to move on from his wife’s death. One night on the radio Jonah, Sam Baldwin’s son, calls in to try to get his dad a new spouse. A woman, Annie Reed, that lives in Washington hears the radio call and is captivated by it. She writes a letter hoping that they can meet. This movie is the PERFECT definition of a Rom/Com and a really good classic. It's a sweet pick me up if you are having a bad day and a simply a good go-to movie.
10. My Girl
Directed By: Howard Zieff
Rating: PG
Vada Sultenfuss lost her mother due to childbirth and just relies on her father and her best friend Thomas J. Sennett. When a woman comes looking for a job at Vada’s dad’s funeral service, Vada starts to act out and you see the bond of Vada and her best friend and a turn of events. This movie is full of innocence and sense of being a child again. It’ll put you through a rollercoaster of emotions but it’s totally worth it.
