A Letter to Young Us

Hi love,

This is really difficult, I know. But I’m so, so proud of you for holding your head high (even if it’s buried in a book) and breathing through this. I hope you know that you can be transparent and open with Mom and Dad. It’s what they’re there for and I know you feel absolutely and utterly alone, but you. will. make. it. through. this. Make the most out of this time, ok? Learn about the events, things, and people that fascinate and inspire you. Read. Read about everything, from how astrology works to why Marie Antoinette was guillotined to how our brains process events and all the skincare and beauty hacks. Become the woman you’ve always wanted to be. Reach out, even when you fool yourself into thinking you’re fine and everything’s dandy. Take time for yourself- even when you think you don’t need it or don’t deserve it. Check on yourself and make sure YOU are doing okay because you can’t be there for everyone you want to be if you’re not there for you. Focus on yourself and what you want to accomplish, and the rest will fall into place. I love you, just the way you are- solo dance parties, crying in your room, quietly reading in a corner- and all.

love,

adia x

Dear August,

Do what makes you happy. You made feel ostracized or scrutinized by others, but that’s ok. Keep learning and asking questions, that’s what you love to do. In the words of Harry Styles, “Treat people with kindness”. Being nice will get you further than you think. Don’t worry about your body, you look fine and no one is noticing you. Be nice to mom, enough said. She is a saint and deserves every bit of love and kindness in the world. Keep being creative in every endeavor you take on, whether it’s a school report or a simple craft. You should talk more because people do appreciate what you have to say. You’re on the right track, so keep being you.

-August
